Plumtree

Hannah - well done for getting the video on the blog after all the problems you had early on.

Positives:

  • I think the locations work really well and the editing between them is very effective.
  • Shot transitions are good and the layering of images is a nice touch
  • The video really fits in with your artist, genre and the song.
Areas for improvement:

  • Just some of the lip-synching - look at 1:01, 1:32, 2:25 and 2:39. The last one is just where you have tried to combine lots of images as the song builds to a chorus but the artist is saying more words than the repeated phrase you are trying to lip-synch. Most of it is really accurate and this is what makes these few moments stand out.
Have another look and see what you can do.

Video Update

Youtube On My Mind

Plumtree

Hannah - well done for posting the poster and first two panels of the digipak. The continuity looks really good across both so far, though you have put the artist's name above the album title on the poster but below it on the CD cover, with the sizes differing too. I would decide which you prefer and change the other one so that they are the same. You obviously need to include the two interior panels for the digipak so think carefully about how they will link in to the front and back panels. Then post them all together so that we can see how they work as a collective.

Plumtree

Hannah - I was expecting to see the latest version of your video, your initial digipak and the poster or website. I am a bit disappointed that none of them are here. Could you please post them as a matter of urgency so that we can see your progress and suggest any areas that need improving.

Email

I have waited to post this because I have been waiting for a reply, however I never recieved one from Gouldings production company, Polydor.

Production progression

My video is nearly done, and I have about 1 minute of footage to complete.
I have filmed in 3 different locations:
Firstly, in the woods with snow
Secondly, in a white room, with mirrors, fairly lights and light walls
Thridly, a black backdrop with silver glitter and snowflakes.

My third filming location was not used in my music video as it didnt fit in with the continuity of my music video. The whole way through my video, I have had the theme of whiteness, from the snow and the white wall with fairy lights. The idea was to have the black background, but with silver and white gliter, and snowflakes falling from above, to give the effect of snow. However, after filming, I found that this looked very artificial, as the 'snow' wasnt falling at a consistant rate, and therefore without this effect it looked out of  the place and therefore ruined the look of my video as the continuity had been removed. Therfore for my final verse, I have taken previous videos in the snow and the white room, and put the together to create the final chrous.
Becuase of the snow, I have used white fading in some of videos, and my fillers shots are of branches with snow on, and also a silver lamp with tree silohettes on it. This also matches with my continuity of the woods, light colours, and also the woodland colours like green and brown.
I also chose to put my artist in mainly dark clothing. In Ellie Gouldings music videos, she wear casual dark clothing, and then I also chose that in my woodland shots, she would be wearing a red scalf to make her stand out a bit, and then all black. For the inside shots, I got her to wear black again, as she stood out more.
My aritsts make up was very basic, as again Goulding wears a small amount of make up. I chose for a subtle look, with straight hair.

Plumtree

Hannah, well done for getting the new version posted and I know you still have some filming to do. Make sure you have more footage than you need in order to fill in some of the gaps. Look carefully at the shot duration as some of yours are a bit too long. It might be that some of the newer footage can help you out with this.

Editing Process

I have started putting my music video together, and have put all the filming in the snow onto my video. There are parts of this video that I am choosing to re-film in the white room, as it will break the video up more, shorten clips and add more of a variety. The clips of snow on the trees are section that need to be filled in with a new clip, and they are an indication of what I need to add too and change:

Filming

Filming of On My Mind.

On the day I was filming, it was snowing, so I did a lot of filming in the woods with the snow.
I was very happy with this, because I was using the white room with lights behind for half of my video, it worked really well as for the continuity of the video, I had a white room, and the white of the snow. I wanted to create a different locations, and also wanted my singer to stand out, because of her dark coloured hair and her dark clothing, she stood out well too the white wall, and the red scarf, dark clothing and hair made her stand out in the snow.
I wanted a majority of different shots and angles in different locations in the woods, and then different angles inside the white room. I also wanted there to be a lot of emotion in the song, and therefore needed my singer to be able to be dramatic and emotionally invested in the song, which I was able to achieve
I chose to get the majority of my outside filming done in the snow, as I could the inside filming done whenever, but I needed to do my filming before all the snow melted
